When You're Sick
There's simple things we can do to speed up the healing and detoxification process when we're sick. Simple is often the most effective.
Hello everyone,
It’s been a bit since the last post. It’s good to be back. Moving forward posts will be less frequent than once weekly to direct focus on additional things. No specific frequency as of yet, but don’t fret. I will still be providing you with health, fitness, and meaningful content to help you live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives.
A client of mine messaged me the other day asking what to do because they were sick and wanted to recover quickly. As much as I hated to hear they were sick, this was an opportunity to help them recover and know what to do in the future whenever they’re sick again.
Some Key Things To Help You Get Healthy Faster:
Rest: Your body needs calm, relaxation and sleep to focus its energies on fighting the pathogen. We often still try to remain productive and push through. This can lead to prolonging of symptoms due to added stress. Now, we all have lives, so rest as much as you can and prioritize your health. But, if you feel you must keep getting your work done then focus on the next points to still be able to shorten the length of time you’re sick.
Walk: Walking is a way of getting some exercise, stimulating blood flow and lymph drainage, increasing oxygenation and elevating your mood and mindset while still not adding so much stress to the body to delay recovery. Walking is hugely underrated.
Sunshine: Great to combine with walking. Try to get at least 15 minutes of sunshine. The vitamin D it generates boosts immunity and the rays of light will no doubt brighten your countenance and boost your mood. Sunshine is another hugely underrated asset to our health and immunity.
Drink Water, lemon and Caffeine Free Herbal Tea: Drink nothing else the entire time. Sugary drinks are terrible for your immune system and your health in general. Avoid them. If you must have a sweet drink, use stevia, monk fruit or even some glycine (a naturally sweet amino acid that’s good for blood sugar control, sleep, cognition and reducing fatigue). Caffeine can dehydrate and overstimulate you. Both things that place added stress on the body while it’s already fighting off sickness. Work with your body, not against.
Avoid Dairy. Dairy is great at producing mucus, clogging the sinuses and your whole system. It can be hard to digest and can add constipation on top of what you’re already fighting off. Clogged sinuses, more mucus, a backed up system and too much energy being diverted to digestion will all significantly slow the detoxification process. Save the cheese for another time, you’ll be happy you did.
Eat light. Fruits, veggies, water and good whole grain bread or crackers (sprouted is best such as Ezekiel or Genesis bread). Fasting is great if you can, but not everyone can fast. Sometimes you need nutrition to give your body what it needs to fight off infection. In that case, eat lightly while getting high quality nutrition. Fruits, veggies and whole grain sprouted bread or crackers are some of the best things to stick to while sick and needing nutrition. Avoid processed food like it would make you sick…because it will.
These are things that virtually everyone can do no matter who you are and in almost every circumstance. Even if you don’t have any high quality supplements (which can greatly support recovery) or a specialized therapy, you can almost always do these things.
